First Bank of SLO

This commercial renovation in downtown San Luis Obispo transformed a former Bank of America building into a refreshed and distinctive banking facility for First Bank, along with the tenant improvements required to support its new use. The project focused on revitalizing the existing structure while preserving the substantial character and civic presence appropriate to a prominent financial institution.

Exterior improvements introduced a cohesive architectural vocabulary through articulated entrances, strong vertical pilasters, decorative cornice detailing, framed window openings, and refined façade treatments. Particular attention was given to the primary entrances and storefront areas, creating clearly defined points of arrival while integrating the new architectural elements with the proportions and massing of the original building. The renovation demonstrates how thoughtful architectural improvements can successfully reposition an existing commercial property while extending its useful life.

Originally developed for Bank of America, the building was renovated for First Bank and later became home to Union Bank. Today, it is occupied by U.S. Bank, continuing its long-standing use as a financial institution. This progression of banking tenants reflects the adaptability and enduring character of the renovation, which has allowed the property to evolve over time while maintaining a strong and recognizable presence in downtown San Luis Obispo.
