Custom A-Frame Remodel

This approximately 2,000-square-foot Atascadero residence began as a simple A-frame home and was extensively remodeled and expanded to create a more traditional architectural character, improved interior living spaces, and a stronger connection to the surrounding landscape. New gables, shed roofs, covered porches, and projecting architectural elements soften the original A-frame profile while creating a more layered composition with greater depth and visual interest.

Expansive decks and covered outdoor living areas extend the home into its natural setting, providing multiple spaces for relaxing, entertaining, and enjoying the surrounding views. Broad porches, substantial columns, exposed structural detailing, generous roof overhangs, stone-clad columns, and a prominent stone chimney reinforce the home’s more traditional character while adding warmth and texture. Interior improvements were coordinated with the exterior transformation to create a cohesive design that retains subtle references to the home’s A-frame origins.

Energy efficiency was also an important component of the renovation, with a new geothermal mechanical system incorporated to improve overall performance and help reduce long-term utility costs. By combining architectural transformation, expanded indoor-outdoor living, updated interiors, and energy-conscious building systems, the project gave the original A-frame an entirely new identity while creating a more comfortable, efficient, and distinctive residence suited to the owners’ lifestyle and its Atascadero setting.
